GB Row Challenge tracked by MatysOnBoard
GB Row Challenge is a non-stop circumnavigation of Great Britain in a 23 foot rowing boat. Four intrepid rowers are attempting a world record for rowing non-stop around the British mainland. A MatysOnBoard Orbcomm unit is installed in the boat for online tracking and messaging. The system was selected because it is compact and has low power consumption. The unique dual mode feature of the system - automatically switching between satellite and GPRS communication according to available coverage - is especially well suited for the planned route.
January, 2005
Matys Ltd, provider of the global satellite and GPRS MatysOnBoard system, launched its newest version, MatysOnBoard - Iridium, at the 2005 London Boat Show.
The MatysOnBoard - Iridium, will allow subscribers to send and receive e-mails anywhere around the globe, using SBD (Short Burst Data) and CSD (Circuit Switched Data) technology service, while retaining all the original unique features of the system (i.e. remote tracking and monitoring, automatic GPRS mode, EPIRB style alarms). Short Burst Data, enables the cost effective transfer of compressed data files of up to 1,960 bytes, perfect for applications such as asset tracking and short e-mail messages, because you pay for the volume of data transferred and not for the airtime.
Suggested retail prices for the MatysOnBoard - Iridium are compatible with fixed Iridium sets on the market, which do not have the other features of the system. The system can also be hooked to an existing mobile Iridium unit, at a substantially reduced price.

Xmas 2004 offshore sailboat race fleet tracked by MATYS.
The last boat crossed the finish line on Friday Dec. 25, at Herzliya
(Israel) after a 450 mile race across the Eastern Mediterranean. The boats
where equipped with Matys OnBoard units and received regular fleet position
updates and weather reports from the Matys Contact Center which monitored
the race. First boat over the line was a Swan 45 "Swantastic", which sailed
all the way from France equipped with the system. They encountered some very
heavy weather, and the unit, which was hastily fitted just before setting
off from France (by a person who had never even seen the unit before),
performed excellently.
